404 W 40th St, AustinCLOSED · #26-00188879Field Inspection Conducted - Close SR. Provided the requestor with the following update: "I'm reaching out to follow up on the Austin 3-1-1 service request you submitted for a double yellow centerline at St Merryn and Farmhaven. Double yellow centerlines are typically installed on streets that average over 6,000 vehicles per day which is much higher than the traffic volumes on the streets in this neighborhood. As part of the Safe Routes to School project, Austin Transportation and Public Works intentionally decided not to install the double yellow except near the intersections. This was done to create a neighborhood street feel with the goal of trying to keep vehicle speeds lower on these streets. We have experienced that the centerline striping creates an environment that promotes higher vehicular speeds. At this time we do not plan to move forward with installing centerline markings along the entire length of the street. The double yellow installed near the intersections provides sufficient indication that the street supports two-way traffic.".

CLOSED · #26-00185298Field Inspection Conducted - Close SR. Contacted participant by email regarding location. Thank you for sharing your feedback for how the IH - 35 Service Road turning onto East Stassney Lane intersection is operating. Although I understand the intention behind your request, TPW does not have an applicable sign to direct drivers to "keep moving". For reference, TPW installs signs that are approved in the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Unfortunately, this is a driver behavior issue given that drivers should understand they have a lane they can enter without conflict since there are no posted signs requiring them to yield or stop. To be responsive to your request, I watched the intersection and did not see any issues with drivers coming to a stop; this is not to say it doesn't occur, just that I was unable to observe it firsthand. I also confirmed that all appropriate signs and pavement markings are installed and therefore additional improvements are not warranted at this time. Please let me know if can further assist you and thank you for contacting City of Austin.
